{"id":977,"date":"2019-11-20T17:13:44","date_gmt":"2019-11-20T22:13:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/urbannaturestore.blog\/?p=977"},"modified":"2019-11-20T17:13:44","modified_gmt":"2019-11-20T22:13:44","slug":"time-to-put-the-suet-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.mppdev.net\/index.php\/2019\/11\/20\/time-to-put-the-suet-out\/","title":{"rendered":"TIME TO PUT THE SUET OUT"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Suet can be fed to our backyard birds all year long.&nbsp; During the summer months adult birds will feed suet to their young, but it is especially important to offer suet to the birds during the cold winter months.&nbsp; Suet is high in calories and fat which provides the birds with more energy.  They need to consume more fat in the colder months to help them brave the elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/urbannaturestore.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/5547s_zoom.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-994\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.urbannaturestore.ca\/wild-birding\/bird-feeders\/shop-by-feeder-type\/suet-feeders\/\">Suet feeders<\/a> come in many shapes, sizes and colours.&nbsp; You can purchase your basic suet feeder which is a small square cage, or you may decide on a double suet feeder which holds two cakes of suet.&nbsp; You could also go all out and purchase a squirrel-proof suet feeder.  We have suet feeders that have cages around them to keep the gray and black squirrels out&#8230; but not the red squirrels and chipmunks.&nbsp; The Squirrel Buster collection of feeders has added a squirrel-proof suet feeder that keeps all squirrels and chipmunks away and you can adjust the tension to keep larger birds off if you prefer.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-tiled-gallery is-style-rectangular\"><div class=\"tiled-gallery__gallery\"><div class=\"tiled-gallery__row\"><div class=\"tiled-gallery__col\"><figure class=\"tiled-gallery__item\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-height=\"417\" data-id=\"980\" data-link=\"https:\/\/urbannaturestore.blog\/img_3420\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/urbannaturestore.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/img_3420.jpg\" data-width=\"313\" src=\"https:\/\/urbannaturestore.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/img_3420.jpg\" \/><\/figure><\/div><div class=\"tiled-gallery__col\"><figure class=\"tiled-gallery__item\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-height=\"391\" data-id=\"981\" data-link=\"https:\/\/urbannaturestore.blog\/img_3409\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/urbannaturestore.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/img_3409.jpg\" data-width=\"313\" src=\"https:\/\/urbannaturestore.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/img_3409.jpg\" \/><\/figure><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>There are other options for you to consider as well.&nbsp; Some of our bird feeders include suet cages on either side.&nbsp; This style of feeder enables birds that prefer to perch rather than cling access to suet.&nbsp; If you decide on this type of feeder I would  highly recommend using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urbannaturestore.ca\/squirrel-buster-suet-feeder\/\">squirrel-proof suet<\/a>.  You can also keep it simple by adding pieces of suet or suet nuggets to a platform feeder which invites all birds to the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-tiled-gallery aligncenter is-style-rectangular\"><div class=\"tiled-gallery__gallery\"><div class=\"tiled-gallery__row\"><div class=\"tiled-gallery__col\"><figure class=\"tiled-gallery__item\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-height=\"1279\" data-id=\"984\" data-link=\"https:\/\/urbannaturestore.blog\/bird-4503918_1920-1\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/urbannaturestore.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/bird-4503918_1920-1.jpg\" data-width=\"1920\" src=\"https:\/\/urbannaturestore.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/bird-4503918_1920-1.jpg\" \/><\/figure><\/div><div class=\"tiled-gallery__col\"><figure class=\"tiled-gallery__item\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-height=\"1280\" data-id=\"986\" data-link=\"https:\/\/urbannaturestore.blog\/woodpecker-3643068_1920-1\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/urbannaturestore.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/woodpecker-3643068_1920-1.jpg\" data-width=\"1920\" src=\"https:\/\/urbannaturestore.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/woodpecker-3643068_1920-1.jpg\" \/><\/figure><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Woodpeckers are regulars at my suet feeders including the Downy, Hairy and Red-bellied.&nbsp; They&#8217;re not the only visitors to the feeders though, the Chickadees, Blue Jays, Red and White-breasted Nuthatches, and House Sparrows also make frequent visits.&nbsp; I&#8217;ve added another suet feeder to attempt to accommodate all of these birds.
